Job Purpose

The Field Applications Engineer is a customer and operations-facing role.  They must have a broad understanding of the customer’s needs and can creatively leverage Sanmina’s internal resources to identify and facilitate solutions for these customers. They will partner with the sales teams on account strategies by providing deep technical support and consulting to promote design wins, maximized margins, and market share. They will build and further develop relationships with customer engineers and engineering management at Sr. levels; as well as the plant operations teams. They will have a deep and broad understanding of Plastics design and manufacturing including injection molding value-add secondary operations. 

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities

  • With GM/VP, Plastics direction, they will develop and implement the technical sales account penetration strategy in each market presenting new products and technologies to current and potential customers and will develop knowledge to uncover, understand, compare, and contrast the solutions. 

  • They must possess an advanced understanding of the customer’s needs and the ability to leverage Sanmina’s engineering and manufacturing resources to identify and facilitate solutions for the customer.

  • They will identify manufacturing opportunities early in the design cycle through customer and manufacturing engineering relationships.

  • They will participate in customer design reviews.

  • They must possess a good understanding of customer needs relative to product(s), technology, direction, and competition.

  • They must possess a deep understanding of the design process and design cycle.

  • They will identify and develop relationships with all key technical decision makers and influencers in each account.

  • They will utilize other FSEs FAEs, supplier resources, technical marketing resources and operations resources to increase the quantity of Design Wins.

  • They will support and influence the sales team by driving the adoption of advocated solutions that meet the customer needs and lead to increased design activity, Design Wins and sales growth.

  • They will identify and track the largest design opportunities from concept to production, utilizing all resources to assure the greatest potential for success.

  • They will leverage the organization’s technical expertise to influence designs utilizing solution selling, resources and strategies

  • They will attend and actively participate in sales strategies and business reviews. They will develop and drive strategic technical plans.

  • They will partner with the sales team across pre-and post-sales activities, providing more advanced technical support and consulting to promote demand creation.

  • They will manage plant and customer expectations by building and developing relationships, reporting on activities, plans, and progress on initiatives.

  • They will perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from four-year college or university, or equivalent experience

  • 5 years of field sales or support experience.

  • Must have a strong understanding of plastic injection molding fundamentals and design principles and have industry experience. 

  • Must have experience with the complete design cycle.

  • Solid works and Mold Flow experience 

  • Must be able to handle tough challenges involving complex and challenging designs, high visibility customers, and adversarial situations. 

  • Must have excellent presentation, public speaking, and written communication skills. Customer service skills are imperative. 

  • Requires a self-starter who has the ability to prioritize, multitask and deal with pressure. 

  • Time management and organizational skills are an essential part of this position. 

  • An understanding of sales activities, sales cycle, and techniques is preferred.

  • The ideal candidate has deep and extensive knowledge of plastics design and design for manufacturability 

  • Has established strong and significant relationships with key technology suppliers and has very thorough and long established working relationships with large, key customer’s engineering teams.

  • This position requires travel 20-35% of the time.

Salary Range(annual): $90,000 - $115,000
