Job Title: Quality Control Supervisor

 

Job Purpose:

The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the quality control department, managing a team of inspectors, and ensuring that all products meet established quality standards, technical specifications, and customer requirements. This role combines hands-on technical expertise in a machining and manufacturing environment with leadership responsibilities to drive continuous improvement, and foster a culture of quality awareness.

Nature of Duties:

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Daily Workflow: Schedule and assign daily tasks to the QC inspection team to ensure an efficient workflow that matches production schedules.
  • Performance Accountability: Conduct regular performance reviews, provide clear and constructive feedback, and address performance gaps within the inspection team.
  • Targeted Training: Identify skill gaps in the current inspection team and provide direct training on blueprints, technical drawings, and proper tool usage.
  • Quality Culture: Foster a disciplined culture of high-quality awareness, attention to detail, and operational excellence on the shop floor.

Inspection & Shop Floor Execution

  • Inspection Oversight: Oversee and verify incoming material inspections, in-process machining inspections, and final product inspections.
  • Technical Supervision: Ensure the team is accurately performing dimensional and visual inspections using tools such as micrometers, calipers, GO/NO-GO gauges, bore gages, and CMMs.
  • GD&T Compliance: Guide and verify that inspectors are correctly reading and interpreting complex blueprints and GD&T requirements.
  • Equipment Care: Ensure all floor inspection and testing equipment is properly handled, calibrated, and maintained by the team.

Defect Containment & Collaboration

  • Material Segregation: Ensure the team strictly adheres to procedures for separating, logging, and identifying rejected parts and assemblies to prevent escapes.
  • Non-Conformance Documentation: Oversee the accurate generation of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) by the inspection team.
  • QA Liaison: Partner directly with the Quality Engineer and Quality Coordinator, escalating defect trends so they can drive the macro-level root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAPA)

Required Experience & Leadership

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in lieu of is a plus.
  • Supervisory Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership position.
  • QC Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a quality control inspection role within a manufacturing or machining environment.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to set firm, clear expectations and provide constructive feedback.

Technical Requirements

  • Print Reading: Advanced knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and the absolute ability to interpret complex mechanical drawings.
  • Tool Proficiency: Mastery of precision hand measurement tools, gages, and familiarity with advanced inspection hardware like CMMs or optical comparators.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in high-precision manufacturing environments (e.g., Aerospace, Automotive, or Medical Devices).
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office) to track team metrics and log inspection data.
