Sr. Hardware Design Engineer

Sanmina Advanced Micro Technologies R&D group has an opening for a Senior Hardware Design Engineer in our Dallas (Carrollton) Texas location. In this role, you will be responsible for designing high-performance, high-data-rate optical data transceivers for the AI, high-speed computing, and datacom markets.  State-of-the-art optical transceiver modules present design challenges for data rates, power density, thermal management, component and signal routing density.

We are looking for an innovative and energetic designer capable of delivering product solutions with on-time results with a minimal amount of supervision.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the technical development with a multi-disciplinary team (electrical, PCB layout, mechanical, software, thermal, Signal Integrity, micro-electronic, and test engineering)
  • PCB & Electrical design of electro-optical transceivers
    • PCB design, including circuit design, schematic capture, and guiding the PCB layout engineer
    • Work closely with Signal Integrity and Power Integrity engineers to simulate the performance of the design, determine the correct PCB materials, board stackup, and trace geometries needed to meet performance specs
    • Power distribution and dissipation estimation and analysis
    • Co-develop the HW/SW IO architecture with SW engineering
    • Work closely with PCB fabricators and PCBA assemblers to ensure the PCB design is manufacturable and will meet design specs (DFM)
    • Guide the test development team, planning, and perform engineering checkout of prototypes
  • Participate in design reviews and regular status meetings
  • Assist with project planning, estimation, and budgeting

The candidate MUST have:

  • Should have A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or relevant experience with 12 years design experience.
  • Shoud be a strong and clear communicator, able to capture and communicate complex concepts and their trade-offs
  • The ability to work well with other team members, suppliers and partners to lead the team to a design solution
  • Must be a detail-oriented with high-quality outputs

Ideal candidates would also have these experiences/traits:

  • Experience with optical transceiver module development
  • Technical leadership experience
  • Experience with optical modules is desirable (a strong design lead should be able to pick this up quickly)
  • High-speed PCB design and signal integrity experience
  • Strong debugging skills
