Specializing in precision machining and metal fabrication, our Sanmina Newark, California facility has 16 years experience in both precision and large format solutions for industrial, semiconductor, clean technology and oil & gas markets.  We provide comprehensive engineering and test capabilities:  from in-house and hydrostatic leak-testing of medium and large format vacuum chambers to machining of precision stainless steel mechanisms.  We have the capacity to machine components up to 3 meters.  Our metal fabrication services include grinding, vacuum welding, heat treating, plating and anodizing.  We can process many advanced materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, plastics, ferrous-non ferrous and other exotic alloys.

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Journeyman CNC Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for the expert-level troubleshooting, diagnostic testing, repair, and preventative maintenance of our industrial CNC machine tools, with a primary focus on Niigata and Mazak equipment (including multi-axis mills, lathes, and machining centers).
The ideal candidate will possess advanced electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic aptitude, ensuring maximum equipment uptime, reliability, and safety in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting & Repair: Independently diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on Niigata and Mazak CNC machinery down to the component level.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM): Execute scheduled and comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for all assigned CNC equipment. Identify potential failures and proactively replace parts to minimize machine downtime.
  • Controls & Electronics: Troubleshoot and repair CNC control systems, servo drives, spindle drives, PLCs, and field sensors. Must have strong proficiency with Mazatrol, Fanuc, and other associated control systems used on Mazak and Niigata platforms.
  • Mechanical Systems: Repair and align machine tool mechanical systems, including ball screws, linear rails, guideways, gearboxes, and tool changers.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date service records, PM logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Develop and update preventative maintenance procedures using technical manuals, electrical/mechanical schematics, and vendor resources.
  • Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all facility safety protocols, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and PPE requirements. Safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials and machine chemicals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with CNC operators, programmers, and production management to understand equipment issues, schedule repairs without heavily impacting production, and train operators on basic daily maintenance tasks.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of industrial machine maintenance experience, with a proven track record as a journeyman-level technician. Must have at least 3 years of direct, hands-on experience repairing and maintaining Niigata and Mazak CNC equipment.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic blueprints and schematics.
  • Strong working knowledge of Mazatrol and Fanuc control systems (parameter adjustments, servo tuning, electronic repair).
  • Proficiency using specialized diagnostic equipment, precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers), and standard hand/power tools.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. AS Degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or advanced technical certifications in CNC machine repair are highly preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical math skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a high degree of self-motivation. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and respond with urgency to machine-down situations.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift heavy components, stand for extended periods, and maneuver around, under, and inside large industrial machinery.

This is an ITAR facility and applicant must be a US Citizen or a lawful permanent resident. 

Salary Range(annual): $85,000 ($40.86/hour) - $98,000 ($47.11/hour) . Actual base pay within this range (determined at the offer stage) will be based on a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, and skills, and is just one element of our total rewards package. The total rewards package also includes a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business and, depending on the role, may include eligibility for restricted stock unit awards and participation in a discretionary bonus program.
