Job Purpose:
Viking Enterprise Solutions provides flexible, scalable, and resilient storage array platforms for enterprise and cloud service providers. We are looking for an experienced Software Developer to join our core engineering team to build, maintain, and optimize software-defined storage management systems using open-source and proprietary technologies.
The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in Linux storage stacks, Kubernetes internals (e.g., CSI drivers, orchestration), and low-level system debugging. In this role, you will contribute to critical architectural decisions, execute end-to-end task planning, and deliver high-reliability storage services in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:
● Design, build and maintain storage services and their integration into Kubernetes (CSI drivers, storage orchestration, provisioning, and data-path components)
● Work within the Linux Storage stack: block layer filesystems, and drive and target that expose storage to clients
● Debug hard problems that span multiple layers: kernel, storage, drivers, cluster orchestration, networking and getting to the root cause
● Harden, package, and ship storage and other components as part of the Kubernetes based product, including performance analysis and failure-mode testing
● Contribute to architectural decisions on how storage, compute and networking fit together.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field of work and minimum of 8 years of related Experience.
Nobody is an expert in all four areas below, and we don’t expect you to be, we’re looking for deep hands-on expertise in at least two of the three core areas (Linux, Kubernetes, Storage). Networking is strong plus on top of any combination
Core Area 1: Linux (kernel-level depth)
● The expertise to read and write kernel cod: kernel modules, kernel debugging, and working knowledge of kernel subsystems relevant to IO
● Deep understanding of the Linux IO path and how the kernel, memory management, and scheduling affect storage behavior and performance.
● Strong systems programming skills (C or Go)
Core Area 2: Kubernetes Internal
● You’ve developed complete CSI driver solutions or build and operated custom Kubernetes distribution: Not just deployed apps onto managed cluster
● You understand the ecosystem down to the low level: etcd, kubelet, the CRI/CNI/CSI interfaces, controllers and operators, API machinery.
● You can debug cluster internals: Why a node is NotReady, why a volume won’t mount, what the scheduler or kubelet is actually doing
Core Area 3: Storage (Protocols, Drivers, and Distributed systems)
● You know what the SCSI SAM, SPC, and SBC standards are for and how they shape real implementation
● You’ve written Linux Storage Drivers, or worked extensively inside the code of a file storage/sharing service such as Samba, NFS, or filesystems like ZFS or OpenLustre
● You’re familiar with advanced and distributed filesystems(e.g. BeeGFS, SeaweedFS, Ceph or similar)
● You know the Linux block/target landscape: SCST, LIO, and the Linux SCSI subsystem
Strong Plus: Networking and Performance
● Advanced networking fundamentals: how ARP, switches, and routers actually work: L4 through L7 filtering
● Complex configuration: subnetting, routing, GRE and other tunneling setups
● VPN and mesh technologies: WireGuard, Tailscale, EdgeVPN, OpenVPN.
● Fluency with diagnostic tooling (tcpdump, wireshark): able to resolve any complex networking issue, including Kubernetes (CNI, kube-proxy, overlay network)
● Performance engineering: profiling, benchmarking, and tuning storage and network stack
Sanmina is an Equal Opportunity Employer
Salary Range(annual): $125,000 - $140,000
Actual base pay within this range (determined at the offer stage) will be based on a candidate's years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, and skills, and is just one element of our total rewards package. The total rewards package also includes a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business and, depending on the role, may include eligibility for restricted stock unit awards and participation in a discretionary bonus program.
