Yield Engineer
Job Purpose:
The PCB industry is experiencing a renaissance with the industry focusing on Interconnect Technology and Miniaturization. With layers of circuits approaching more than 70 layers and features approaching below 1 mil (25.4 microns), the industry is rapidly changing from the early 2000s to enabling technologies in the 2020s and 2030s. Sanmina's PCB division is at the forefront of this renaissance, offering new opportunities for talented engineers in chemical engineering, material science, physics, and mechanical engineering. Sanmina is seeking engineers to explore opportunities to unleash the potential of advanced semiconductors and enable significant technological advancements. The yield engineering role will be part of the quality organization of a Sanmina facility that makes some of the most complex and mission critical PCBs solutions on the planet. The Yield Engineer will work closely
with the Engineering and Manufacturing teams to investigate the root causes of the factory yield detractors and implement lasting corrective actions.
Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:
- Implement new methods and capabilities for enabling efficient analysis of manufacturing data for yield improvement. Drive the automated publication of standard yield metrics and KPI’s across the factory (PCB fabrication and final test).
- Work closely with the process engineering and operation teams to improve the effectiveness of in-line monitors in an effort to mitigate the end-of-line yield fallout. Develop detection methods to prevent defect escapes to customer and to identify defects as early as possible in the process flow.
- Work with process engineering and operation teams to define the yield improvement strategy based on KPI’s, yield pareto’s, and pFMEA’s. Lead focus teams and drive continuous improvement activities using 8D, DMAIC or similar methods.
- Drive understanding of the relationship between design attributes and yield. Understand the impact of various fabrication/process methods on yield. Define capabilities vs roadmap requirements. Partner with product engineering and process engineering to source new tools and change processes to enhance capabilities.
- Work closely with process engineering, facilities, and equipment engineering to upgrade and source new equipment to improve process stability.
- Be the focal person for best practice sharing with sister PCB sites.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, preferably Chemical, Mechanical or Materials Science Engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years working experience in PCB or semiconductor manufacturing.
- Strong data analysis skills and proficiency with tools such as JMP, Minitab, Excel
- Experienced in statistical data analysis and Design of Experiments
- Proven track record in solving problems using 8D and continuous improvement via DMAIC.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- A self-starter and go-getter capable of driving the yield improvement progress
